Walking along the B9040 is the only option for people with pushchairs, wheelchairs, prams and mobility scooters who need to walk between Silver Sands Caravan Park, Twenty Nineteen Coffee, Covesea and Lossiemouth.

It’s inherently dangerous and people walking, cycling and wheeling rely on drivers seeing them and passing at a safe distance. It’s also frustrating for drivers, who have to slow down and wait for a safe place to overtake, which isn’t easy on that particular stretch of the B9040.

We’re aware that a number of near misses occur along this stretch of road, but there’s no way to officially report these, and often it’s impossible to improve the safety of roads without a significant record of incidents.

Laich of Moray Active Travel Routes have therefore created a form to allow people to report their near misses on the B9040 and are asking the local community to report any near misses you witness, or are involved in, along the B9040 between Lossiemouth and Hopeman.

The aim of the form is to collate information and raise awareness of just how dangerous the B9040 road is for vulnerable road users including wheelers, walkers, cyclists and riders, and to validate our campaign to build an active travel route between Lossiemouth and Hopeman.

This is about road safety, and so your means of travel is not important – if you were driving and almost had a collision with another car, you’re still welcome to complete the form.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us.

PLEASE NOTE: this is not an official form and incidents are not reported to Police Scotland etc
